We have cleared customs last night. At four o'clock in the morning after a cup of coffee we start for the 69 mile long crossing. It is still dark, but with the moon shining the vision is good. Soon the dawning starts and the sun rises above Croatia.

When we start the wind hits us exactly from the back - means puking course. But later as the day wakes up the wind turns more to the south and southwest. At 8.30 we can set sails and high on the wind we sail to Italy. At one point the wind even turns to north east we reach 7.3 knots - wow!

We take turns, one is always on watch. A few fisher boats and some big tankers cross our way. But we know the saying: The plotting is fix and the distance gets smaller… It is three o'clock when we reach the lighthouse of Vieste and shortly after we berth.

GGudrun and Helmut are expecting us and with Prosecco and Sherry we exchange experiences about the crossing.

Walking in the Italian city of Vieste we feel back in civilization, it is so different to Croatian cities - in both ways good and bad.
Clearing customs or our passports - nobody is interested in it, so much to the European outside Border (Schengen)!

The atmosphere is wonderful, a little market with fruits and vegetables and other Italian goodies. Tomatoes smell like tomatoes…. And the variety in the butcher shops….

Saturday, May 28th
Our new friends Gudrun and Helmut leave in the morning direction south. We
want to spent another day here, just because of the butcher! This is a city of steps; the cathedral is all the way up. Somebody who wants to go to church has already served his sins.

For dinner we have kebabs of wild boar, what a change!
